The Milan Wildcat basketball teams, in action broadcast on Hot Country Z 101.7 on Tuesday night, claimed a pair of victories at Polo High School against the host Panthers.
The Milan girls improved to 3-4 overall, and 1-0 in the GRC, with a 48-40 win. Samantha DeRyke had one of her best nights as a Lady ‘Cat, with a game-high 19 points, while senior guard Kenna Michael added eight. For the Lady Panthers, 3-4 overall and 0-1 in conference play, Shelby Copeland had 12 points, Billie Thompson 11, and Jenni Farmer nine points.
The Wildcat boys continued their strong early season play, backing up Friday night’s win at Schuyler County with a Tuesday night clock-runner at Polo, 58-26. Senior forward Wyatt Bohle paced the ‘Cats with 23 points. James Fleener with 15 points and Jared Robertson eight for PHS. Milan, now 5-2 overall and 1-0 in the GRC East, travels to Maysville on Friday night, while the Panthers, falling to 4-3 overall and 0-1 in conference, head to Putnam County for Friday night action.
Elsewhere in the Grand River Conference, the South Harrison Bulldogs took a home-court sweep in Bethany against the visiting Maysville Wolverines, with the Lady Bulldogs tuning up for Friday night’s trip to Trenton with a 65-42 win. The South Harrison boys took a 57-50 win over MHS.
Opening night in the GRC’s Western Division saw four schools sweep their varsity competition, with King City, Stanberry, Braymer, and North Andrew starting conference play with 1-0 records.
