Head Coach John Dabney has a young group of Milan Wildcats ready to see mountains of varsity playing time in 2017, some by necessity, and some by their natural ability, as the season opener with the Mark Twain Tigers approaches on Friday night.
The veteran Wildcat coach spoke about the make-up of his squad in a late-week interview with Sports Director Tom Johnson:
Milan comes off of a solid boy’s basketball and boy’s track season, with Dabney hopeful that the winning mentality built over those seasons, and a great deal of success in middle school, carries onto Cal Hubbard Field over the next 10 weeks:
Of the eight teams in the Grand River Conference’s Eastern Division, Trenton may have the most difficult non-conference tandem of games, with a home date against Lathrop followed by a road trip to Lexington. However, Milan’s challenge appears no less daunting, beginning with a home date this Friday with a good Mark Twain outfit:
Milan’s first football broadcast on KTTN FM 92.3 for this season will be Friday night, August 25th, when the Wildcats travel to mid-Missouri to play the South Callaway Bulldogs. The Grand River Conference opener against the Princeton Tigers follows in Week 3 (September 1st), also on KTTN.
