The Milan Tournament, coming off the decision made by North Mercer to enter the South Harrison Tournament this year, is down to seven schools, leaving the top seeds (Green City girls and Milan boys) with first-round byes this week, while the Monday and Tuesday quarterfinals will play three (instead of the usual four) games over the next two nights.
Basketball action from Milan High School begins at 5 o’clock this (Monday) afternoon, with the #2 seed Novinger boys battling Newtown-Harris. At 6:30, the #4 seed Grundy R-5 girls take on Novinger. The final game of the night will be the #3 seed Green City Gopher boys against Grundy R-5 at 8 o’clock.
On Tuesday night, the Linn County girls play at 5 o’clock, with the #3 seeded Lady Mustangs taking on Brashear. The #4 seed Linn County boys battle Brashear at 6:30 on Tuesday night, followed by the #2 seeded Milan Lady Wildcats against Newtown-Harris at 8 o’clock.
The Milan boys and Green City girls, by virtue of their first-round byes, will earn automatic berths into the semifinal rounds, with the Lady Gophers playing on Wednesday night at 6:30 (against the Grundy/Novinger winner) and the Wildcats playing Thursday night at 6:30 (against the Linn County/Brashear winner).
