The Milan girls and boys basketball teams have repeated as champions of the Milan Invitational Basketball Tournament, taking a pair of wins over the Marceline Tigers on Monday night, January 31st in action heard on KTTN FM 92.3.
The Lady ‘Cats won the tournament for the second year in a row, overcoming a slow start and dominating the third quarter in a 53-36 win over the Lady Tigers. Milan improves to 17-4 with the victory, with Marceline dropping to 6-12. Senior Cady Pauley earned tournament MVP honors with a 38 point performance in the final. Marceline had a 22-20 halftime lead, leaning on seven first-quarter points from Ramzee Bruner to take an early lead. Bruner finished the game with 10 points for the Lady Tigers, with starting forward Addison Huber leading Marceline with 15.
The Milan boys won the MIT title for the sixth consecutive year, and 10th time overall with a 49-36 win over Marceline. Tournament MVP Chekh Niasse led the Wildcats with 18 points, with Ahmet Niasse adding 17, and Jeremy Bennett 11. The Wildcats are now 14-7 on the season. Marceline, falling to a mark of 7-10, had eight points each from Zach Niemeier and Wyatt Molloy.
