The Milan Wildcats rode a strong pitching performance by right-hander Kyle Peterie to a 6-4 win over the Trenton Bulldogs on Tuesday night, in a baseball game broadcast on KTTN FM 92.3.
The Wildcats took advantage of Bulldog sloppiness in the top of the 2nd inning to score two runs to take the lead. Two Trenton errors, three wild pitches, and two base-on-balls combined to give MHS the advantage. A potential third run for the Wildcats was cut down at the plate, after a wild pitch bounced back to Trenton catcher Mason Owen, who dove to tag out a sliding Ian Russell at home plate.
The Trenton offense struggled making contact with Peterie, striking out 12 times in 6 1/3 innings. The Bulldogs cut the lead to 2-1 in the bottom of the 2nd, with Hunter Dugan reaching via a Milan error, stealing second base, and scoring on a pair of Peterie wild pitches.
Milan added to the lead in the late innings, with Jesus Gonzalez scoring on a single by Peterie in the 5th inning, Quinn Doak scoring on a Cooper Sanders single and Sanders scoring on a Cooper Bankus single in the 6th, and a pair of doubles driving in a run in the 7th.
THS scored in the bottom of the 6th inning, with Avery Cooksey doubling, moving to third on a ground out, and scoring on a wild pitch. Down 6-2 going into the bottom of the 7th, Trenton rallied for two runs, with Jesse Farmer driven in on a Avery Cooksey single, and Jaren Whitney scoring on a fielding error by Milan right fielder Jesus Gonzalez on the play.
Wyatt Bohle worked around a Trenton run to record the final two outs of the game for the Wildcats.
Drew Rorebeck went five innings for Trenton and was saddled with the loss. Colton Colston pitched the 6th inning and Avery Cooksey the 7th for the Bulldogs, in the home game at Burleigh Grimes Field.
Trenton will play at Macon on Thursday afternoon at 5 PM, before finishing the regular season on Monday at St. Joseph Christian.
