The Milan Lady Wildcats opened “Trophy Day” at the Marceline Hoops Classic with a 51-42 victory over Schuyler County, as Genesis Sarabia scored 14 points to give the Lady ‘Cats needed momentum going into this week’s Milan Tournament. The Saturday afternoon victory came less than 24 hours after a 70-47 victory over Meadville. Milan’s pressure defense, led by the guard play of Courtney McCollum and Adrienne Weaver, played a critical role in Milan’s late tourney surge at Marceline.
The boys’ consolation final at Marceline went to the host Tigers, a 56-44 winner over Glasgow.
In the third place games, the South Shelby Ladybirds walloped Marceline 65-37, while the Putnam County boys earned a 44-37 win over Meadville, as Kaden Seaton had 14 points to pace the Midgets attack. Meadville ends the Marceline Tournament with back-to-back losses, after having an eight-game winning streak snapped on Friday night in a 55-38 loss to the Macon Tigers.
