The Milan Wildcats ran into a Tiger buzzsaw on Monday night, falling to the top-seeded Scotland County High School baseball team 14-0 in Class 2, District 5 semifinal action in Memphis. The win pushes the Tigers into Wednesday night’s (5:00) championship game against the Canton Tigers, a 17-7 semifinal winner over the Putnam County Midgets.
Not all baseball news out of Sullivan County was bad from Monday night however, as in Class 1, District 15, the Green City Gophers hammered Tri-County Conference rival Linn County, 16-5, moving into Wednesday’s championship game against Northeast Nodaway. The Blue Jays, the #2 seed in the tournament, took down the host North Harrison Shamrocks, 7-6. The Green City / Northeast Nodaway showdown will be played in Eagleville.
In Class 1, District 16, North Nodaway beat Platte Valley 10-3, while St. Joseph Christian downed East Atchison 5-2, moving NNHS and the Lions into a 6 o’clock championship game on Wednesday night.
In Class 3, District 15, the Lawson Cardinals and Lafayette County (Higginsville) Huskers will play one another in a district final, after the Cardinals shutout Carrollton on Monday night 9-0, while the Huskers took a much tighter affair, 7-6 over St. Paul Lutheran.
The Mid-Buchanan Dragons flexed their muscles, on their home field, on Monday night, routing KCI Conference rival Plattsburg in the Class 3, District 16 semifinals 18-2. Mid-Buchanan, in the district final on Wednesday night, will take on the MEC’s Bishop LeBlond Golden Eagles, a 7-2 winner over the Lathrop Mules.
In Class 4, District 15, Smithville beat St. Pius X 7-3 and Excelsior Springs was a 13-0 winner over Van Horn, sending the Warriors and Tigers into Wednesday’s district final at 5 PM.
The season came to an end for the Chillicothe Hornets on Monday night, with CHS falling 7-4 to Lafayette at Phil Welch Stadium in St. Joseph. The Irish broke a 1-1 tie with four runs in the top of the fifth inning, swinging the upset of the #2 seed. Lafayette will battle the Maryville Spoofhounds on Wednesday at 5 in the district final, after the ‘Hounds beat Savannah on Monday night, 8-5.
