The Milan Wildcats 11-0 start has pushed the Grand River Conference’s Eastern Division leaders to #4 in the state in the latest Missouri Basketball Coaches Association poll, released on Wednesday afternoon. Milan will put its unbeaten mark on the line tonight (Thursday night) at 8:30, playing the 8-3 rival Putnam County Midgets in the Marceline Tournament semifinals, on KTTN FM 92.3.
The Meadville Eagles are also in the Marceline semifinals, awaiting a date with the Macon Tigers on Friday night. Meadville will enter the contest ranked #8 in the state in Class 1, while the Winston Redbirds one-point loss to Pattonsburg in late December has the HDC leaders checking in at #5.
The decisive victory by Class 4 Benton over Class 3 Trenton at Holiday Hoops on December 23rd had a huge benefit in the polls for the Lady Cardinals, while not knocking down the Lady Bulldogs a bit. Benton, the only unbeaten girls team in the Class 4 Top Ten, checks in at #3 this week, while Trenton, at 9-1 heading into games at Maysville (Friday night) and with Tolton Catholic (Saturday – 11:30 in St. Joseph), remains #2 in Class 3.
