For the second time this month, the Milan boys met the Putnam County Midgets in tournament play, but unlike the first meeting at Marceline High School, the second go-around between the border rivals came on the Wildcats home floor, on Saturday night in the championship game of the Milan Tournament.
The Wildcats speed and depth, in a recurring theme to the 2017-2018 season, again paid dividends for the “Green and Gold”, as the ‘Cats improved to 15-0 with a 62-43 win over Putnam County. Hunter Shaw led Milan with 17 points, with Dominic Dabney added 14, and Ryan Dabney 13 points. For the Midgets, Levi Fowler had 19 points, with Carson Quint adding 12. The two teams will play a third time this month on Tuesday, January 23rd, this time in Unionville as part of a GRC East varsity doubleheader on KTTN FM 92.3.
The Green City Lady Gophers, like the Milan boys, remain unbeaten heading into mid-January, with Green Cityi beating Milan on Saturday night in the girls final, 74-41. Brooke Littrell had a game-high 34 points for the Gophers, with Katelyn Conner adding 25. Adrienne Weaver and Katlynn Sylvester both had 11 points for the Milan girls.
Saturday night’s championship tilts were both broadcast on KTTN FM 92.3.
The Brashear Lady Tigers beat Grundy County in the girls third place game, 50-42, with the Putnam County Lady Midgets winning consolation over Bucklin/Macon County 70-43.
On the boys side, Novinger upset Linn County in the third place game, 60-57, with Green City winning the consolation final in impressive fashion over Grundy R-5, 78-43.
