Putnam County High School’s Carson Quint scored 37 points on Monday night, as the Midgets outlasted the Marceline Tigers 80-76 in a Class 2, District 7 boys quarterfinal played at Schuyler County High School.
While the Midgets leaned on their All-GRC selection to earn the win, Marceline’s attack came from the combination of Lance Gladback, with 24 points, and Levi Terrell, who added 23 in the Tigers final game of the season.
The victory for the Midgets advances Putnam County into the boys semifinal round, and a meeting with either #1 seed Milan or #8 seed Schuyler County on Thursday afternoon at 5:45. Weather permitting, Milan is slated to play the host Rams tonight (Tuesday night) at 8:15. Putnam County played Milan three times during January, falling in all three contests against their fiercest rival, leaving open the possibility that a fourth meeting between the Midgets and Wildcats could be on the horizon.
The season came to an end on Monday night for the Milan Lady Wildcats, with Marceline’s Maycee Edgar scoring 26 points in a 66-45 win for the Lady Tigers over the Lady Wildcats.
In the district semifinals, Thursday afternoon at 4:30, the Lady Tigers advance to play top-seeded Salisbury, a 54-26 quarterfinal winner over LaPlata on Monday night.
The Salisbury boys, seeded #3 in the District 7 tournament at Schuyler County, cruised to a win over Northeast of Cairo on Monday night, 72-42.
Weather permitting, Tuesday’s quarterfinal schedule from Queen City opens with the Northeast girls against Westran at 4:30, followed by the Westran boys challenging #2 seed LaPlata at 5:45. The Milan Wildcats battle former conference rival Schuyler County in a boys 8:15 game, preceded at 7 o’clock by the #3 seeded Schuyler County Lady Rams hosting the Putnam County Lady Midgets.
