Putnam County senior fullback Torqe Brundage had 28 carries for 202 yards and a pair of touchdowns, leading the Putnam County Midgets to a 14-13 overtime victory over Milan on Monday night at Cal Hubbard Field. The game, heard on KTTN FM 92.3, started late in the second quarter with Putnam County leading 7-0, representing the spot that the contest had been suspended due to lightning on Friday night.
Putnam County held that 7-0 lead to late in the fourth quarter, when a Milan interception gave the Wildcats possession in the “Red Zone”, with a touchdown and extra point tying the game at 7, with overtime beginning a few minutes later.
The visiting Midgets, on a Brundage run and the extra point, took a 14-7 lead in the extra session, giving the ball to Milan. The Wildcats, on a 4th down play, were able to get into the end zone, cutting the lead to 14-13, but, in a recurring theme for the snake-bit Wildcats in 2019, the extra point missed, setting off a celebration from the Putnam County players. With kicking woes in all of Milan’s losses, all by one point, the Wildcats sit at 2-3 overall, and 1-2 in Grand River Conference play.
Milan’s senior night is coming up this Friday, October 4th, when the Wildcats host winless Trenton (0-5, 0-3) on Hot Country Z 101.7, with the Midgets preparing to host the Princeton Tigers (4-1, 3-0) on Homecoming Night in Unionville on KTTN FM 92.3.
