The Putnam County Midgets defeated the Trenton Bulldogs in middle school football action on Monday night at C.F. Russell Stadium, with a final score of 14-13. Both teams scored two touchdowns in the GRC contest, with the Bulldogs hitting one extra point but missing their fourth quarter conversion attempt, while the Midgets converted a two-point try in the second quarter, while missing out on a conversion attempt in the final quarter.
TMS opened the scoring in the first quarter on a 25 yard touchdown run Sam Gibson, with Hunter McAtee hitting the PAT. The score stayed 7-0 until the 2nd quarter, when the Midgets took the lead on the combination of a 55 yard scoring strike and a two-point conversion. The visitors from Unionville took an 8-7 lead to the half.
The game stayed at 8-7 going into the fourth quarter, with both teams scoring six points on touchdowns, missing PAT’s in the final stanza.
For Trenton, Gibson had 117 yards rushing, averaging 13 yards per attempt, with a pair of touchdowns. Dylan Spencer led the Bulldog defense with seven tackles, while Cayden Spears had a fumble recovery. Trenton’s next game will be at Princeton at 5 o’clock on Monday, September 24th.
