The top-seeded Mercer Cardinals, tied with the North Harrison Shamrocks at the half (22-22), put up 29 points in a third quarter onslaught to overwhelm the upset-minded squad from Eagleville, rolling to a 69-33 victory on Wednesday night.
Cash Hartley led Mercer with 20 points. Bryer Noe had 19, Hunter Shipley 11, and Grey Porter nine for the Cardinals. Randy Rinehart had nine points for a North Harrison squad held to just 11 second-half points, outscored 47-11 over the final 16 minutes of play.
Mercer advances to the Class 1, District 14 boys championship game against the Worth County Tigers, a 53-38 winner over the Pattonsburg Panthers. The Mercer vs. Worth County game, on Friday night at 6:30, will be broadcast, live from North Harrison High School in Eagleville, on KTTN FM 92.3.
The Class 1, District 14 girls semifinals will be played tonight (Thursday night) in Eagleville, with #1 seed Mercer taking on Gilman City at 6 o’clock, followed by North Harrison battling Worth County at 7:30. The winners advance to the Class 1, District 14 girls championship game, Saturday night at 6:30.
