The Mercer girls won the HDC Conference Tournament championship on Friday night, blowing out the North Harrison Lady Shamrocks as part of an overwhelming three-game stretch by the #1 team in the state (MBCA Class 1). Mercer beat Milan in a Monday night contest, with Gilman City traveling to Mercer tonight (Tuesday) for the Cardinals “Senior Night”, before Mercer ends the regular season later this week at East Harrison.
The Cardinal boys ran into a Winston Redbird firestorm on Friday night, with the #1 ranked boys team in the state, according to MBCA, beating Mercer for the second time within a week. However, Coach Wyatt’s team, after finishing second in the conference tournament, beat Milan by ten points on Monday night, setting up a Tuesday night rematch with Gilman City.

Both Cardinal teams are headed into the final week of the 2016-2017 regular season ranked, with the Lady Cards #1 and the Cardinals #10 in Class 1. Next week, both Mercer teams will have #1 seeds for the Class 1, District 14 tournament at North Harrison High School in Eagleville, with the Lady Cardinals drawing Newtown-Harris and the Cardinals getting #8 seed Albany in quarterfinal round play.
