Meadville High School girls basketball coach Steve Carvajal, who led the Lady Eagles to the Class 1 state championship in 2023 and the state quarterfinals this past season, has accepted the role of Activities Administrator with the Tipton School District, announced via a Facebook post.
Carvajal leaves Meadville after the school’s unbeaten 2022-2023 season and unbeaten 2023-2024 regular season. The Lady Eagles long winning streak was snapped by the Northeast Cairo Bearcats in the Class 1 quarterfinal round.
Opportunity for continued success at Tipton factored into the decision, as the Lady Cardinals won a state championship in 2023 and finished third at the 2024 event last month. Meanwhile, Carvajal’s daughter Paige, an All-State talent, is graduating from Meadville this spring in addition to fellow All-State guard Korrie Holcer. Paige Carvajal’s younger sister, Steve’s daughter Madison Carvajal, will be a junior in the 2024-2025 season.
In addition to the state championship with the Meadville girls 13 months ago, Carvajal won the 2004 boys state championship at with the Tri-River Conference’s North Shelby Raiders.
Tipton’s athletic programs will be joining a newly formed Central State 8 Conference next season, a group that will include outgoing Lewis and Clark Conference members Harrisburg and Fayette. Fellow Lewis and Clark school Marceline is also leaving for the Grand River Conference for the 2024-2025 school year.
