Meadville Lady Eagles captured a state championship Friday afternoon in the MSHSAA class one basketball tournament at the Great Southern Bank arena on the campus of Missouri State University in Springfield.
Tom Johnson broadcast the game on our sister station, KGOZ 101.7 as Meadville defeated Chadwick by a final score of 39 to 28, capping an undefeated season for the Lady Eagles, winners of all 31 games played.
In the victory, Johnson credited the Meadville win to its tight defense, especially over the last three quarters. Chadwick had 14 points after the first quarter. Then scored only 14 more points combined for the second, third, and fourth quarters. The game was very close for three-quarters of play until Meadville pulled away in the fourth quarter, thanks in part to making free throws.
