The Marceline Lady Tigers have been added to the field for Saturday’s Putnam County Varsity Softball Tournament, bringing major changes to the announced schedule last week for what was, at the time, an eight team field. Marceline will join Trenton, Brookfield, Chillicothe, Clark County, Highland, Kirksville, Putnam County, and Schuyler County) for action in Unionville on Saturday, September 3rd.
Instead of four schools in two separate pools, there are now three schools in three separate pools, meaning two games in pool play for each school, and two games in “gold, silver, and bronze” pools in the afternoon hours.
Pool A will consist of Chillicothe, Clark County, and Putnam County, with Trenton in Pool B, joined by Kirksville and Schuyler County. Pool C will have the long-time Linn County rivals Brookfield and Marceline joined by Highland.
Pool A will play their contests at the North Field, with Chillicothe playing Putnam County at 9:30 AM, followed by Clark County and Putnam County at 11 o’clock, and Chillicothe against Clark County at 12:30. Pool B games, at the South Field, will have Kirksville and Schuyler County dueling at 9:30, Trenton against Schuyler County at 11:00, and Trenton against Kirksville at 12:30. Pool C, at the “Lower Field”, will see Marceline against Brookfield at 9:30, Brookfield vs. Highland at 11:00, and Marceline against Highland at 12:30.
Three fields in Unionville (North, South, and Lower) will be utilized for Saturday’s tournament. Admission for spectators is $4.00 for adults, $2.00 for senior citizens (over 60) and $3.00 for students.
The second set of pool play games start at 2:30, with first place teams from each earlier pool entering the “Gold Pool” at the North Field. Pool B will play Pool C at 2:30, with A against C at 4 o’clock, and A taking on B at 5:30.
Second place teams to go the “Silver Pool” at the South Field, with Pool A vs. Pool C at 2:30, B against C at 4:00, and A against B at 5:30.
The third place teams will be placed in the bronze pool, as Pool A and C play at 2:30, B vs. C at 4:00, and A vs. B at 5:30.
