The Kansas City Chiefs rallied from another first-quarter deficit, as quarterback Patrick Mahomes threw for 423 yard and three touchdowns in a 44-23 victory over the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday afternoon in Santa Clara, California.
Mecole Hardman had the best game of his pro career, scoring on a pair of short touchdown runs, and adding an eight-yard scoring catch. Justin Watson had a four-yard touchdown catch, while JuJu Smith-Schuster contributed a key 45 yard reception. From the backfield, Clyde Edwards-Helaire had a 16 yard touchdown run.
In games with Mahomes at quarterback and the Chiefs down by double digits, Kansas City is now a remarkable 13-9, showing an uncanny ability to rally under pressure. Of those 13 wins, the biggest was the Super Bowl win over the 49ers in February 2020, when the Chiefs trailed by double digits early in the fourth quarter.
San Francisco lost in the franchise’s first game with All-Pro running back Christian McCaffrey, acquired from Carolina earlier in the week. He had 10 touches of the football against Kansas City, amassing 62 total yards.
