The Kansas City Chiefs had their normally potent offense shutdown by Tennessee on Sunday night, with the Titans holding a 17-9 lead going into the fourth quarter. Facing a potential third loss of the season, the Chiefs slumbering offense was awakened on the legs of quarterback Patrick Mahomes, who ran for a tying score and two-point conversion late in the fourth quarter of a 20-17 overtime victory at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium.
Mahomes was 43 of 68 for 446 yards and a touchdown for Kansas City, as coach Andy Reid improved to 21-3 in games following a bye in his Hall of Fame career. Reid improves to 3-9 against the Tennessee franchise, as the Chiefs avenged an embarrassing 27-3 loss to the Titans last season in Nashville.
Following Mahomes fourth quarter heroics, Harrison Butker drilled a go-ahead field goal in overtime, with the Kansas City defense, dominating late against rookie quarterback Malik Willis, stopping the Titans on four downs deep in Tennessee territory.
The win improves Kansas City to 6-2 and drops Tennessee to 5-3. All-Pro running back Derrick Henry had two touchdowns and 115 yards rushing for the Titans.
