Lathrop High School sophomore Brooke Huitt, via a Twitter post on Monday morning, verbally committed to the softball program at Missouri State University in Springfield.
Huitt will pitch in the same complex that hosted the Lady Mules (Final Four) in a Class 2 state championship season in 2015 and fourth-place finish in 2016. With a devastating rise-ball as her featured pitch, Huitt has dominated opponents throughout the last two seasons, finishing her sophomore campaign with an ERA of 0.79 and a record of 25-3.
Trenton’s Lady Bulldogs are very familiar with Huitt, having the right-hander end their season in back-to-back October playoff games. On their way to the state title in 2015, Huitt shutout Trenton 5-0 in the Class 2 state sectionals, and, in a memorable game played on Missouri Day Festival weekend last October, Huitt and the Lady Mules held on for a 4-3 state quarterfinal win at Trenton.
With both the Lady Mules and Lady Bulldogs program buoyed by talented youth, more postseason matchups in 2017 and 2018 could be on the horizon before Huitt’s graduation in May 2019.
