The North Central Missouri College women played a short-handed yet determined St. Louis Archers squad on Saturday, with St. Louis staying very much in the game against the natonally-ranked Lady Pirates for the first 2 1/2 quarters of the contest.
However, fatigue and the Lady Pirates superior depth overwhelmed the Archers over the final 15 minutes, with NCMC outscoring STLCC 46-27 in the second half for an 80-57 victory, heard locally on Hot Country Z 101.7.
North Central led 20-13 after one quarter, but saw the lead shrink to 4 points (34-30) by the half. Sophomore guard Nora Ford caught fire in the third quarter, with 11 of her game-high 23 points for the Lady Pirates (14-4, 2-0). Kennadie Crowe picked up the slack in the fourth quarter, with eight of her 17 points. Maci Moore had 12 and Angel Wiggins 11 for NCMC.
St. Louis falls to a record to 3-6 in a challenging season that started with an off-season coaching change, and in-season losses due to COVID-19 protocols. Jayla McLemore had 14 points and Courtney Lumpkins 12 for the Archers.
The men’s game was postponed due to COVID-19 protocols leaving the Archers short on available players. The game will be made up later this season at a date to be announced.
