The North Central Missouri College softball team scored a run in the bottom of the sixth inning to win the opener, before stomping their way to a dominant win in the nightcap, sweeping a Region 16 doubleheader against State Fair Community College on Wednesday afternoon.
In action from the Ebbe Sports Complex at Trenton High School, the Lady Pirates (20-4, 2-2) won the opener 5-4, with leadoff hitter Abby Dobbins going 2 for 4 with a run scored and an RBI, adding a stolen base. Casey Stout earned the win from the circle, scattering six hits over a complete game effort, striking out 11 and walking three, adding two hits in three at-bats for NCMC.
Others collecting hits in the game, part of a 10-hit attack for North Central, were Maycee Edgar, Rylee Sensenich, Madi Cole, Erica Sandoval (a double), Sammi Bradshaw, and Audrey Elifrits.
The Lady Pirates opened up a 5-0 lead after two innings, extending the advantage to 9-1 by the end of the fourth, in cruising to a 9-1 win in the second game. Trenton High School grad McKayla Blackburn was one of four Lady Pirates with two base hits, with both of Blackburn’s coming on doubles. Sandoval, Stout, and Bradshaw had multi-hit games, as the 2 through 5 batters in the North Central lineup went a combined 8 for 11 with six RBI’s and seven runs scored. Madison Cowman and Kaycia Williamson each had a hit and an RBI for the Lady Pirates, in the 20th win of the spring for the team.
Bradshaw pitched five innings for NCMC, striking out six batters and scattering six hits in the contest.
