The North Central Missouri College softball team rallied from an early 4-0 deficit to defeat the Southwestern Community College Spartans 6-5 on Monday afternoon, completing a two-game sweep. The victories improve the Lady Pirates to 22-4 this spring.
Visiting Southwestern scored two runs in the 1st and added two more in the 2nd to put the Lady Pirates in an early bind. The rally started slowly for North Central, with a single tally in the home 3rd, before a three spot in the 4th tied the game at 4. The teams traded single tallies in the 6th, with the Lady Pirates winning the game in the bottom of the 7th.
Casey Stout pitched a scoreless 7th inning to earn the win for North Central, scattering one base hit. Putnam County graduate Sammi Bradshaw got the start, giving up five runs, although a pair of NCMC errors made all the runs unearned. Bradshaw struck out four batters.
Stout was 3 for 4 with the bat with three RBI’s, with Erica Sandoval going 2 for 3 with a run scored and an RBI.
The Monday afternoon opener was much less stressful for North Central, as the Lady Pirates cruised to a 9-0 victory in a five-inning run rule contest.
Stout had a double and three RBI’s for the Lady Pirates, while pitching five shutout innings, striking out nine batters and scattering three hits. Abby Dobbins and Maycee Edgar each had two runs scored, while Rylee Sensenich was 2 for 3 with a pair of RBI’s, with Kori Hornaday adding a pair of hits and two runs scored.
