The annual KCI Conference Basketball Tournament opened at Mid-Buchanan High School in Faucett on Monday night, with the Penney Lady Hornets joined by North Platte, East Buchanan, and Mid-Buchanan in the win column.
In the most impressive defensive display of the night, the Lady Bulldogs of East Buchanan shutdown the Lathrop Lady Mules, winning by a score of 49-7. The win pushes East Buchanan into a Thursday night semifinal with Mid-Buchanan, a 61-39 quarterfinal winner over Plattsburg.
On the top half of the bracket, the Hamilton-Penney Lady Hornets, holders of the top seed, hammered West Platte 55-20, sending Jordan Richman’s team into a semifinal match with North Platte, a 43-40 winner in an upset of the #4 seed Lawson Lady Cardinals.
