Trenton played well in all facets of the game Thursday, getting timely hitting, great defensive play and stalwart pitching to pick up the win over the Penney Hornets.
With two outs in the first inning, Taylor Richman made a nice play on a line drive to left field that was slicing away from her to end the inning. In the bottom of the first Ainsley Tolson got the offense started with a one out double followed by a Salem Croy single. Whitley Richman played the games first run with an RBI single to score Tolson and Taylor Richman came up big again with an RBI single to score her sister to make it 2-0.
Trenton struck again in the third inning. With the bases loaded and two outs Mason Hooyman lined a double to right center, scoring Jaylen Neff, McKayla Blackburn and Taylor Richman to make the score 5-0 Bulldogs. Trenton tacked on another run in the 4th on a Jaylen Neff sacrifice fly, scoring Mykah Hurley. Trenton’s final run came in the 6th inning when Tenna Roberts walked, advanced on a passed ball, advanced to third on a ground out and scored on another passed ball to make it 7-0.
The Bulldog defense came up big all game as Salem Croy handled five Hornet bunt attempts cleanly and Taylor Richman made another nice running catch to end the Penney 6th inning. Ainsley Tolson was in control from the start, allowing only 1 hit in the 7th inning while striking out 6.
Trenton will play Lexington in the Class 2, District 15 championship game on Saturday morning at 11 o’clock in Lexington. Pregame hits the air on Hot Country Z 101.7 at 10:45, with first pitch at 11 o’clock. Tom Johnson will have the play-by-play call. Lexington advanced with a 15-0 win over Carrollton in the district semifinal round.
