The Trenton Lady Bulldogs used a fierce full-court press in the first half to overwhelm the 8th-seeded LeBlond Golden Eagles, in a 54-12 district quarterfinal victory on Monday night, broadcast on Hot Country Z 101.7.
The win pushes Trenton’s record to 23-3, with the #5 ranked team in the state (MBCA Class 3) moving into a third meeting with Penney, coming up Wednesday night at 6 o’clock (on KTTN FM 92.3). Whitley Richman led THS in Monday’s victory with 12 points, while Ashten Whitaker had 11 and Mykah Hurley 10 points.
Bishop LeBlond was paced by seven points from Peyton Thomas.
The Penney girls swung a mild upset, downing the 4th-seeded South Harrison Lady Bulldogs 51-38. McKauley Prothero led the Lady Hornets with 14 points, with Nora Ford adding 13, and Graycen Prothero 11 points. Penney has two head-to-head losses to Trenton this season, first in the Lawson Tournament championship game, followed by last Thursday’s regular season finale in Hamilton. Now, the Lady Hornets get one more shot at the Lady Bulldogs. South Harrison was paced by 18 points from Katey Wilhelm and 13 from Neiley Karns in their final game of the season.
The East Buchanan Lady Bulldogs claimed a 55-32 victory over Maryville on Monday afternoon. Josie Fortney had 23 points and Madison McCreary 17 for the KCI champions from Gower, while Felicia Sheil had 14 for the Lady ‘Hounds. East Buchanan will take on the host Lathrop Lady Mules on Wednesday night at 7:30, after Lathrop beat Brookfield in the district quarterfinals, 46-30. Deidra Sellers had 20 points and Annika Huitt 13 for LHS. Future NCMC Lady Pirate Ashtin Williams scored 10 points in her final game as a Brookfield Lady Bulldog.
Class 3, District 16 quarterfinals from Lathrop High School continues later this (Tuesday) afternoon, as the #3 seeded Trenton boys take on East Buchanan at 4:30, with coverage on KTTN FM 92.3. That game will be followed by #1 seed Maryville against Brookfield at 6, #4 seed Lathrop hosting Bishop LeBlond at 7:30, and the #2 seed from Hamilton battling South Harrison at 9 o’clock.
