Trenton and Maryville met in a Monday afternoon tennis dual on the campus of Northwest Missouri State University, with the Lady Spoofhounds emerging with the 7-2 victory, with THS, at the varsity level, managing one singles and one doubles triumph, despite much of the action being closely contested.
The Lady Bulldogs got an 8-3 victory from Lexi Gott (over Chiara Ghera) at #5 singles, with Gotta combining with Emma Gilham at #1 doubles for an 8-6 win over Morgan Goodridge and Addison Hall of Maryville.
The remainder of the dual went to the Lady ‘Hounds. At #1 singles, Goodridge upended Trenton’s Gilham 8-3, with Hall beating Elle Neal at #2 singles, 8-3. One of the closest matches of the day, at #3 singles, saw Kendall Crowley of THS come up a couple of games short, falling 8-5 to Emma Webb-Kirkpatrick. Kamrya Gastler of Maryville defeated Latorrie Johnson of Trenton at #4 singles, 8-2, while Cayrea Barnett was an 8-1 winner over Morgan Dolan at #6 singles.
Maryville’s doubles wins came from Webb-Kirkpatrick and Ghera (#2 over Neal and Johnson) 8-5, and from Gasteler and Groumatis (#3 doubles), 8-5 over Crowley and Dolan.
The schools played nine junior varsity matches against one another on Monday, eight in doubles play and one singles match, with Trenton winning six matches to Maryville’s three.
