The powerful Bishop LeBlond volleyball program has won another district championship, hammering its way to a three-set win over Trenton on Monday night, 25-10, 25-7, 25-14 in action from Grace Gymnasium in St. Joseph.
Trenton, by the admittance of coach Brad Ewald, “fought hard but were outmatched”. The Lady Bulldogs had a balanced offensive attack, with the majority of the THS hitters racking up a pair of kills in the contest.
Ava Simpson had nine assists for Trenton, with Ally Yoder adding an ace and two kills, and Juliet Schmadeke 13 digs to go with one kill. Trenton’s defensive game was strong, with numerous digs to keep rallies alive, but the Lady Bulldogs failed to return the pressure to LeBlond with the same amount of offensive sting.
LeBlond’s three-pronged hitting attack came from junior Sadie Ward, senior Kianna Herrera, and junior Paige Perry.
After the victory, broadcast on KTTN FM 92.3, LeBlond, as District 16 champions, will travel to Gower to play District 15 champion East Buchanan on Thursday night.
In the semifinal round on Saturday, Trenton lost its opening set to South Harrison , 30-28, yet stormed back to win the final three sets, 25-13, 25-22, 26-24, with LeBlond winning against Brookfield in a semifinal sweep, 25-9, 25-6, 25-9.
In Trenton’s final victory of the season, in the district semifinals, Ava Simpson had 26 assists, Ally Yoder 13 kills, and Juliet Schmadeke 12 digs and 5 kills.
