The Kirksville Tigers defeated the Trenton Bulldogs in boys tennis action on Thursday afternoon, improving their record to 3-3 while dropping Trenton’s spring record to 5-2.
Kirksville controlled the singles competition, with Gavin Pike (#1) and Quinton Dorrell (#2) winning by identical 8-1 scores, with Pike defeating Bradyn Sager, and Dorrell downing Victor Markell. Trenton’s lone singles victory came in the #3 match, with Simon Mollick falling to Isaac Dixon of the Bulldogs 8-1.
Other singles scores were: Brennan Bailey (KHS) over Jacob White (THS) 8-5, Cedric Cook (KHS) over Jacob Horton (THS) 8-1, and John Quinn (KHS) over Henry Lasley (THS) 8-4.
In doubles competition, Kirksville’s Pike and Dorrell won the #1 match over Sager and White 8-1. Trenton’s Markell and Dixon won the #2 doubles match over Mollick and Bailey 8-3. In the #3 doubles match, Cook and Quinn of Kirksville beat Horton and Lasley of Trenton 8-1.
In junior varsity singles competition, Kirksville’s Xavier Speak beat Trenton’s Ryeland Kirk 6-0. Kirk lost to Kai Dixon 6-3 and Jackson Meintz 6-4.
