The Princeton Tigers will head into Class 2, District 16 play this week with back-to-back road defeats against Grand River Conference Western Division competition, after the King City Wildkats claimed a doubleheader sweep of PHS on Friday night, in action broadcast on KTTN FM 92.3.
In the girls game, Princeton’s defense could not find the solution to slowing down Lady Wildkat senior Brittany Walters, who dominated the first and fourth quarters in a 53-33 Senior Night victory for KCHS. Walters finished with 24 points, while Grace Schottel added eight for King City.
Princeton was behind 16-3 after the first quarter and, despite a couple of mid-game surges, could never wrestle the lead away from the Lady ‘Kats. Vivian Allen paced the Lady Tigers with 15 points, while Jaelyn Thomas added nine.
The boys game went to King City in a back-and-forth affair, 54-49. The game was tied at 20 at the half, but a third-quarter surge by the Wildkats was the difference, with King City holding off Princeton’s fourth quarter surge in the Senior Night win. Collin Breckenridge paced the ‘Kats with 19 points, with Davis Washburn adding 11. For Princeton, Calvin Berwanger had 20 points, with Andrew Smith and Blaine Millburn both chipping in 10.
Princeton will be in Class 2, District 16 tournament action this week at Mid-Buchanan High School in Faucett, Missouri. King City’s teams will be in district tournament play at St. Joseph Christian High School.
