In high school district tennis singles and doubles on Saturday in Chillicothe, the host Lady Hornets captured the top two spots in singles as Macy Cavanah beat Delaney May in the championship match, 6-2, 6-1. The Lady Hornet duo of Hunter Keithley and Hannah Zimmerman downed Lexi Gott and Kendall Crowley of Trenton in the doubles title match, 6-1, 6-3.
Cavanah and May, along with the doubles team of Keithley and Zimmerman, along with Gott and Crowley, advance to sectional competition on Wednesday afternoon at 4 o’clock in Warrensburg.
For Trenton High School, Crowley and Gott made the doubles final with a 6-2, 6-1 quarterfinal win over Sisson and Lourence of Chillicothe in the quarterfinals, and a 6-4, 4-6, 6-3 win over McBee and Phillips of Richmond in the semifinal round.
Trenton’s Morgan Dolan finished fourth in singles, falling to Rebecca Harness of Excelsior Springs in the third place match 8-5. Dolan won her quarterfinal match against Kaylee Hall of Carrollton 6-1, 6-2, before being swept 6-0, 6-0 by Chillicothe’s Cavanah in the semifinal round. Alaina Overton of THS lost her quarterfinal match to May of Chillicothe 6-2, 6-3.
In doubles, Trenton’s Gwyneth Foster and Mallory Sole opened their day with a 6-1, 6-1 win over McFee and Weber of Richmond, before losing in the second round to Keithley and Zimmerman from Chillicothe 6-1, 6-3.
