The Chillicothe girls took a victory, but the Hornet boys came up five points short, as the Savannah Invitational Tournament got underway over the past two nights at the Savannah High School gymnasium.
The Chillicothe Lady Hornets, in the quarterfinals, defeated former conference rival Smithville by a final score of 56-49, moving into a semifinal test with William Chrisman, a 56-36 Tuesday night winner over Savannah.
In girls pool play games, the Staley Falcons beat Benton on Monday night 42-40, with the Maryville Lady Spoofhounds downing Benton on Tuesday night, 44-27, the ‘Hounds first victory over powerhouse Benton since 2011.
The Chillicothe boys, in pool play, lost to Savannah 46-41, with the Savages coming back on Tuesday night, falling to Platte County 60-46. In bracketed quarterfinal action for the boys, Benton beat Smithville 68-60 while Maryville slipped by Hogan Prep 58-54.
