The Trenton Lady Bulldogs went 2-1 on Saturday, but by virtue of a head-to-head win over Maysville and a three-way tiebreak claimed by fewest runs allowed, THS won the annual Maysville Softball Tournament.
Maysville and Trenton both went 2-1, with the Lady Wolverines beating Plattsburg 6-5 and DeKalb 7-6 in a pair of early-round contests from Maysville’s Upper Field. On the Lower Field, Trenton began its day with a 9-4 win over DeKalb, followed by a 3-2 setback against Plattsburg.
Against DeKalb, Trenton opened up the game, tied at 1 through 2 1/2 innings, by scoring three runs in the 3rd and adding 3 more runs in the 4th. The game went five innings, with the Tigers scoring three and the Bulldogs two in the final frame.
Kaylor Hodge reached base three times and scored three runs against DeKalb, with King, Harris, Lynch, and Clark adding runs.
Against Plattsburg, Trenton opened the scoring in the first inning, with Hodge scoring on a Harris RBI. In the second, with the game tied at 1, Avery Clark launched a solo home run. The 2-1 advantage for THS held until the bottom of the 5th inning, when Plattsburg scored two times to take the lead, and after a scoreless sixth inning, the win.
Clark went five innings for Trenton, with four hits allowed and three runs, all unearned. The Lady Bulldogs defense scuffled, with five errors in the contest.
Against Maysville, Trenton’s offense was led by Madi Moore, going two-for-three with three RBI’s out of the leadoff position. Emma Roberts went the first 4 2/3 innings to get the win, allowing four runs on just three hits. Just one of the runs was earned.
Other Saturday scores from the Maysville Tournament were Plattsburg over DeKalb 20-5.
