The Penney Lady Hornets, owners of a season record of 16-2 and a head-to-head over Trenton High School on September 10th, will be aiming for a second consecutive district championship later this week, hosting the Class 2, District 16 tournament on Wednesday, Thursday, and Saturday at Penney High School in Hamilton.
In 2017, as a #2 seed, the Lady Hornets won at Trenton on the Lady Bulldogs home field, part of a five-month stretch that saw Hamilton, in postseason play, knock off a #1 seeded Trenton team in both softball and girls basketball. This year’s District 16 tournament, with the Hornets having the top-seed for a story line switch, will feature five teams, with the #4 seeded Polo Lady Panthers playing #5 seed South Harrison on Wednesday, October 10th at 5 PM.
The semifinal round will be played on Thursday, October 11th, with the Penney Lady Hornets hosting the Polo-South Harrison winner at 5 PM, followed by the #2 seeded Trenton Lady Bulldogs battling #3 seed Lawson at 7 PM.
The semifinal winners will play in the District 16 championship game at 12 PM on Saturday, October 13th.
