Six HDC Conference schools will bring their softball teams to a pair of fields in Bethany on Saturday morning, for the annual conference tournament. The junior varsity squad from North Harrison High School has the #1 seed, with Mercer earning the #2 seed. Other teams in the event will be Gilman City (#3 seed), Winston (#4 seed), Grundy County R-V (#5 seed), and Tri-County (#6 seed).
The tournament will be played with two pools of three teams each, with results from two games in pool play placing teams in either the 5th place, 3rd place, or championship games.
Memorial Field in Bethany will host games in “Pool A”, with North Harrison playing Winston at 9 o’clock, Grundy County battling Winston at 10:30, and Grundy County opposite North Harrison at noon. Lynch Field will play host to the “Pool B” contests, as Tri-County and Gilman City lock horns at 9, followed by Tri-County against Mercer at 10:30, and Gilman City against Mercer at noon.
The 3rd place and 5th place games will be played simultaneously, with 3rd place at Memorial and 5th place at Lynch, both at 1:30. The HDC Tournament championship game will be at 3 o’clock, at Memorial Field in Bethany.
Each game on Saturday will be played with a 75 minute time limit, with the exception of the title game. The “international tiebreaker” of placing a runner on second to begin each half-inning will be used if a game is tied after the expiration of the time limit, OR if the game goes past seven innings.
Ties in pool play will be broken by fewest runs allowed (first tiebreaker), most runs scored (second tiebreaker), or a coin flip (third tiebreaker).
