The HDC Conference, earlier this week, announced postseason honors, with all of the teams in the conference having been eliminated from postseason play with the Tuesday night loss by Winston to the Worth County Tigers in the Class 1 state sectional round.
All five of the boys named First-Team All-HDC were by unanimous selection, with Winston juniors Cy Uthe and Jacob Lewis; Mercer junior Hunter Shipley; Gilman City senior Cornelius Peery; and East Harrison senior Ethan Claycomb were named to the squad.
Boys second-teamers are Mercer senior Grey Porter and sophomore Cam Hartley; North Harrison junior Logan Craig; East Harrison senior Justin Roberts; Gilman City junior Kaleb Bjornlie; and Grundy R-5 senior Bryson Gann.
Three boys in North Harrison’s Steven Willhite, Mercer’s Jon Johnson, and Gilman City’s Mitchell Sievering were named Honorable Mention.
Winston’s Eric Lewis, for the third consecutive year, won the HDC’s boys coach of the year award.
For the All-HDC girls, a pair of North Harrison seniors were named unanimous first-teamers, in Payton Craig and Brandy Rivet. The four others named first team are Grundy R-5 sophomore Jandie Peterson, Winston junior Sophie Pliley, Newtown-Harris sophomore Gabrielle Nielson, and East Harrison junior Natayla Selby.
Second team selections are Grundy R-5 junior Morgan Axtell, Mercer sophomore Aubrey Wilson, East Harrison junior Lauryn Waddle, Tri-County junior Jadan Almond, and Gilman City senior Megan Cottrell.
The honorable mention girls team is made up of East Harrison sophomore Hope Ellsworth, North Harrison freshman Emma Craig, Mercer junior Esabel Holt, and Grundy R-5 sophomore Anna Milazzo.
North Harrison’s Aaron Long was named the girls All-HDC Conference coach of the year.
