Tri-County and Grundy County met on the softball diamond on Wednesday night, with the Lady Panthers taking a 13-3 victory in a neutral site HDC Conference game played in Newtown.
Kendra Johnson led the Grundy offense with a 3 for 3 night, with three singles, two stolen bases, and an RBI. Hannah Garcia was 2 for 3 with a pair of doubles, three RBI’s, and a base on balls, while Aubrey Gann finished 1 for 3 with a single, walk, and three RBI’s.
Winning pitcher Matana Munday pitched five innings, with five strikeouts, three walks, and only two hits allowed.
Lady Panthers Head Coach Jessica Parsons said, “We were able to get out bats going and score runs. I was very proud with how the girls played.”
The Grundy R-5 boys picked up their first baseball win of the season, 25-0 over Tri-County. For the Panthers, Ben Busick scored four runs and had three hits. Blake Foster had 3 RBI’s to go with a pair of hits, Austin Eckert had two hits and 3 RBI’s, while Lane Kenley contributed two hits and three RBI’s.
Wayne Baxter earned the win for two innings of shutout ball, striking out five and allowing only two hits. Foster pitched the third inning, striking out the side while allowing a walk. The Panthers season record is 1-5.
