The Grundy R-V/Newtown-Harris girls and boys opened the basketball season on Friday night by hosting the Novinger Wildcats with the Lady Panthers falling by a final score of 47-41. Molly Milazzo led Grundy with 17 points, with Kinsley Allnutt adding 11, and Adysan Rains 10 points. The Panther boys claimed a 61-29 win over the Wildcats. Corbin Axtell has 18 points to lead a balanced Panther attack, with Hunter Miller adding 10 points. Nine Grundy R-5 boys scored in the road win.
The Macon Tigers swept a homecourt doubleheader against Trenton on Friday night, with the Tigerettes winning 53-50. The Macon boys took down Trenton 60-53. Lathrop and Gallatin played at Gallatin High School, with the Lady Mules winning the opener 52-39. The Bulldogs, the defending Grand River Conference champions, won their season opener over Lathrop by a score of 60-44.
Trenton’s girls and boys will continue their road trip to start the season on Tuesday night, traveling to Gower to play the East Buchanan Bulldogs on Tuesday night. Tom Johnson will have the call of the 6 o’clock girls varsity game, followed by the boys contest, on KGOZ FM 101.7. Pregame hits the air at 5:50.
