The Lady Panthers of Grundy County R-V scored eight runs in the top of the 7th inning on Tuesday night, needed breathing room in a 19-9 victory at Tri-County High School of Jamesport.
Grundy surged out of the gate early, with five runs over the first 2 1/2 innings giving the Lady Panthers a 5-0 advantage heading into the Lady Mustang third. Tri-County got on the board in the 3rd inning, then both teams began to light up the scoreboard, with the Panthers lead sitting at 7-3 after 4 innings, and 11-6 after five.
Things tightened significantly on the Panthers in the 6th inning, with the offense held scoreless for the first time, and Tri-County scoring three times, rallying to within 11-9 before the 8-inning knockout blow in the visitors 7th.
For the Lady Panthers, Hannah Garcia had a double, with Aubrey Gann adding a double, three RBI’s, and five stolen bases. Lillian Fordyce had two RBI’s in the win.
Gann combined with Anna Milazzo for a critical double play for Grundy County to hold down the Tri-County offense, while Bri Carpio made two tremendous catches in left field to allow the Lady Panthers to escape the 6th inning with the lead.
Elsewhere in the HDC Conference on Tuesday night, North Harrison continued to steamroll through their schedule, beating the Winston Lady Redbirds, 15-0.
The Panthers completed the Tuesday night sweep in the baseball finale, with Wayne Baxter firing four innings of shutout ball, striking out eight Mustangs in an 11-5 Grundy R-5 victory. Baxter, with the bat, was 1 for 2, with two base on balls and an RBI, while Cooper Lewis was 1 for 2 with two RBI’s, and Andrew Garcia 1 for 3 with an RBI.
