The Grundy R-5 Lady Panthers throttled the Novinger Lady Wildcats on Saturday afternoon, 71-41 in Class 1, District 11 quarterfinal action from Green City High School. Grundy, in the win, was led by Mady Williams with 22 points and Morgan Axtell with 18. The win sends R-5 into the semifinals at a meeting with Linn County, Wednesday night at 7:15. The Lady Mustangs, on Saturday night, claimed a 52-40 quarterfinal triumph over Brashear.
On the top half of the girls bracket from Green City, the host and #1 seed Lady Gophers walloped Bevier 84-12, while #4 seed Atlanta slipped by Bucklin/Macon County 44-31. Green City will host Atlanta on Wednesday night at 6 o’clock.
The Class 1, District 11 girls championship game will be played on Friday night at 7:30.
While the season moves forward for the Grundy girls, it came to a close for the Panther boys on Saturday afternoon, in a 77-51 loss to the #4 seeded Bevier Wildcats. The Bevier win moves BHS into a semifinal with the #1 seeded Novinger Wildcats on Tuesday night at 6 o’clock. Novinger beat Atlanta on Saturday morning, 63-49.
On the bottom half of the boys bracket, Linn County beat Brashear in a late Saturday afternoon blowout, 70-18, while the Green City Gophers, seeded third, hammered Bucklin/Macon County 71-35, moving the Gophers and Mustangs into a district semifinal affair on Tuesday night at 7:15.
The Class 1, District 11 boys championship game will be played on Friday night at 6 o’clock from Green City High School.
