The Green City Lady Gophers are now 21-0, heading into a Tri-County Conference test on Tuesday night at Linn County, after an impressive 64-46 win over Northeast High School of Cairo in Saturday’s championship game of the LaPlata Tournament.
The Lady Gophers got the jump early in the title game against the Lady Bearcats, leading 15-11 after one quarter, and extending the advantage to 28-17 by the half. The biggest surge of the game for the #3 ranked (MBCA Class 1) Lady Gophers was early, as Green City scored the first 12 points of the contest.
All-State forward Brooke Littrell led Green City with 25 points, while Katelyn Conner added 22.
In Friday night’s girls action from LaPlata, Canton won third place over Madison, 64-56, while Schuyler County doubled up North Shelby in the consolation final, 52-26.
The Green City boys finished a successful week at LaPlata with a 64-53 win for third place on Saturday afternoon, defeating the Raiders of North Shelby High School. The Canton Tigers won the boys championship at LaPlata High School, 59-47 over the host Bulldogs on Saturday night.
