The Grand River Conference has announced Eastern Division first-team, second-team, and honorable mention selections for the 2017-2018 basketball season. Six girls, all juniors, were named All-GRC Eastern Division first-teamers, led by the starting backcourt from Trenton High School, with Ainsley Tolson and Mykah Hurley named unanimous first teamers. The other two unanimous selections were Princeton’s Payton Goodin and Gallatin’s Kelsey Maxwell, with the first team rounded out by the selections of Gallatin’s Karley Salmon and Princeton’s Jaelyn Thomas.
Three members of the GRC champion Trenton Lady Bulldogs were named Second-Team selections, in freshman Maci Moore, and junior forwards Salem Croy and Sidney Lynch. Putnam County senior Callie DeVore, Gallatin senior Cora Stout, and Polo junior Shelby Copeland are also second-team selections.
Honorable mentions All-GRC East girls are the Milan senior tandem of Adrienne Weaver and Katlynn Sylvester, Maysville junior Kat Whiteman, Princeton sophomore Lacie Lewis, and South Harrison junior Karsyn Bennett.
Trenton’s girls won the GRC East title with a mark of 7-0 (overall 24-1), and won the GRC title outright for the second consecutive year with a victory at Stanberry on February 2nd.
For the GRC East boys, two players from the East champion Milan Wildcats were named first-team selections, as all nine boys on the squad were named in unanimous fashion. Milan sophomore Ryan Dabney and Hunter Shaw are joined on the first team by Trenton senior Lathan Croy, Gallatin senior Jett Simmons, South Harrison’s Treyton Campbell, Putnam County’s Carson Quint, Polo’s James Fleenger, Princeton’s Calvin Berwanger, and Maysville’s Austin Shirk.
Second-team honorees are Trenton’s Dylan Harris, South Harrison’s Cody Weller, Putnam County’s Levi Fowler, Princeton’s Blaine Millburn, Milan’s Dominic Dabney, and Polo’s Jared Robison.
Boys named All-GRC East honorable mention are Gallatin’s Colin Beck, South Harrison’s Kinser Corbett, Putnam County’s Grant Sands, Milan’s Eddie Gonzalez, and Princeton’s Andrew Smith.
Milan won the GRC East with a conference mark of 6-1, one game ahead of a Trenton team that beat the Wildcats head-to-head. Trenton’s 5-2 league mark left the Bulldogs one game ahead of third-place South Harrison and Putnam County. Milan lost the GRC championship game at Class 1, #1 ranked North Andrew on Friday, February 2nd.
