Grand River East softball opens tonight, with schools working to dry fields

The eight schools that make up the Grand River Conference’s Eastern Division were set to open softball conference play tonight (Tuesday), however, wet field conditions has moved the Gallatin at Polo contest to Wednesday, September 6th.

The defending GRC champions from Trenton will open the conference slate against Maysville for the second year in a row, although tonight’s game will be played at Trenton High School’s Mark Griffin Memorial Field.  Pregame begins at 5:15 on Hot Country Z 101.7 for the 5:30 first pitch.

Other conference openers are slated for Milan and Princeton, where the Lady Wildcats host the arch-rival Putnam County Midgets, while at Gentry Field in Princeton, the Lady Tigers welcome an improved South Harrison Lady Bulldog team, with both the Tigers and Bulldogs having played three games on Saturday in the season-opening North Harrison Tournament.

Numerous outdoor athletic events have been rescheduled for tonight.  In addition to Gallatin vs. Polo, the Grundy R-5 softball and baseball games at Brashear have been postponed.  The King City softball match with DeKalb is postponed until 5 PM on September 6th.  Cameron’s varsity and JV softball games for tonight, according to a tweet, will be played in Excelsior Springs, starting at 4:30.  Lathrop’s softball contest with Maryville is postponed until Wednesday, August 30th at 4:30 PM.
