St. Joseph Lafayette High School hosted a seven-school girls tennis tournament on Wednesday, with Trenton’s Lady Bulldogs traveling the furthest to participate in the event at Noyes Courts that included Chillicothe, Lafayette, Bishop LeBlond, and Maryville, along with, from the state of Kansas, Atchison and Hiawatha.
Trenton found some of its best success of the fall season, with Lexi Gott taking first-place in the #1 singles tournament, while the doubles team was Mallory Sole and Alaina Overton grabbed the top spot in the #2 doubles competition.
For Gott, it was a 6-0 day, with all victories coming in fairly dominant fashion. Lexi defeated Delores Brant of Atchison 6-1, Cami Carpenter of Chillicothe 6-love, Morgan Hurn of Hiawatha 6-love, Rowan Davis of Lafayette 6-1, Reese Robertson of LeBlond 6-2, and Athena Groumoutis of Maryville 6-2.
Trenton’s other singles entry, Lydia Leininger at #2 singles, went 1-5, with a 6-1 win over Emma Grandpie of Atchison, but defeats to Megan Sisson of Chillicothe (love-6), Laurel Madure of Hiawatha (5-7), Brooklyn Lorenz of Lafayette (1-6), Emily Weddle of LeBlond (2-6), and Blake Springer of Maryville (2-6).
Sole and Overton won all five matches they played to take the top spot in #2 doubles, downing Sutton and Royer of Atchison 6-2, Anderson and Snider of Chillicothe 6-2, Law and Meisenheimer of Hiawatha 6-love, Scheerer and Morris of Lafayette 6-3, and Rorey and Lily of LeBlond 6-love.
Wednesday also brought a strong doubles showing for Trenton’s #1 entry of Megan Dolan and Emilee Lovell, finishing third place with a 4-2 record. Dolan and Lovell grabbed a 6-love win over Atchison, 6-3 triumphs over Chillicothe and Hiawatha, a 6-1 win over Sumner and Kretzer of Lafayette, before a 6-1 loss to LeBlond, and a 6-2 loss to Skidmore and Cullin of Maryville.
