The Green City girls and boys both made the trip to Chillicothe High School on Tuesday night, hopeful of victories in the first round of the Class 1 state playoffs.
Unfortunately for the Gophers, the Tri-County squads ended up on the wrong end of the scoreboard, as the Lady Gophers, ranked #2 in the state, lost for the first time this season, 56-43 against Norborne, while the Gopher boys were downed by Slater 74-59. The wins send the Lady Pirates and the Wildcats to the state quarterfinals at Salisbury High School on Saturday night. The Norborne girls will play Glasgow at 6 o’clock, followed by the Slater boys against Chamois. The Green City boys end their season at 22-7.
The season also came to a close for the HDC champion Winston Redbirds and CLAA champion Southwest Livingston Lady Wildcats. Winston was beaten by Worth County at the St. Joseph Civic Arena, 57-39, with Southwest falling to Worth County at the same location, 59-50.
