Gilman City, behind near triple-double by Burrows, upsets Pattonsburg in District 14 girls quarterfinals

The Gilman City Ladyhawks received another superb performance from senior guard Hailey Burrows, who scored 35 points, while adding 12 rebounds and nine steals, as the Ladyhawks defeated Pattonsburg 54-50 in Class 1, District 14 quarterfinal action at North Harrison High School in Eagleville.

Megan Cottrell and Destiny Blackburn both had six points for the Ladyhawks, with Cottrell adding five rebounds and three assists.  Brooklynn McCrary had five points and a key three-pointer.  The win avenged a close regular season loss to their former conference rivals for Gilman City. Another key statistic for the Gilman girls was 12 for 15 marksmanship in the fourth quarter, helping to close out the win.

The win moves Gilman City into the semifinal round, and a Thursday night meeting with #1 seeded and ranked Mercer.  The Lady Cardinals defeated Newtown-Harris on Tuesday night, 88-18.  The Mercer vs. Gilman City girls semifinal is set for a 6:00 PM tip.

The host North Harrison Lady Shamrocks downed Albany in quarterfinal round play, 47-30, pushing the Lady ‘Rocks to the semifinals, and a 7:30 meeting on Thursday night with Worth County, a 50-42 quarterfinal winner over the East Harrison Lady Bobcats.

The boys semifinals will be played tonight (Wednesday night) in District 14, as the top-seeded Mercer Cardinals battle the North Harrison Shamrocks at 6 o’clock, followed by Worth County taking on Pattonsburg at 7:30.
