In a game broadcast on KTTN-FM on Friday night, the Gallatin defense showed the ability to bend, but not break, in a 14-6 road win at Milan against the Wildcats.
Gallatin’s two-headed quarterback system of Wyatt Bird and Cole McBee showed off-and-on effectiveness, with Bird rushing for 80 yards, and McBee throwing for 55 yards. Bird had a five yard touchdown scamper in the first quarter for the Bulldogs, with the extra point kick by Adrian Hernandez giving GHS the 7-0 lead.
Milan’s offense continues to show improved blocking, and a stout rushing attack, but the Wildcats, for the second consecutive week, struggled to put points on the board against the competition in the Grand River Conference, with Milan’s only points scored on a 50 yard touchdown run by Jaidyn Watts in the second quarter. The two-point conversion failed, leaving the halftime score at 7-6.
Gallatin extended the lead to 14-6 in the third quarter, as Corbin Toney scored on a three-yard run, with Hernandez connecting on the extra point. No points were scored by either side in the final quarter.
The win improves Gallatin to 3-3 overall, and 2-2 in the GRC. Milan falls to 0-6 overall, and 0-4 in the GRC. Watts ended the night with 21 carries for 172 yards for the Wildcats.
Gallatin will host the Princeton Tigers this Friday night (September 30th) on KTTN FM 92.3. Milan looks for their first win of the season, hosting a winless South Harrison squad on Friday night at 7 o’clock.
