The 4th-seeded Gallatin Lady Bulldogs played one of their most complete games of the season on Monday night, using a balanced scoring attack, and a swarming defense that harassed GRC rival Princeton for 32 minutes, in a 63-34 Class 2, District 16 girls quarterfinal, broadcast on Hot Country Z 101.7.
GHS jumped to a 17-6 lead after one quarter, and built the lead throughout the game, holding Princeton to just five points in a decisive third quarter that put the game out of reach for the 5th-seeded Lady Tigers.
Megan Cox came off the Gallatin bench to score a team-high 12 points, a mark matched by starting forward Cora Stout. Hayley Michael scored 11 for Gallatin, now 19-7 on the season. Princeton, in falling to a final record of 17 wins against nine losses, had 9 points each from All-GRC East forwards Payton Goodin and Jaelyn Thomas. Vivian Allen, in her final game in a Princeton uniform, had five points, including a fourth quarter three-point shot.
The win sends Gallatin into the girls district semifinals, where the Lady Bulldogs will host Mid-Buchanan on Thursday night at 6 o’clock. Mid-Buchanan, the top-seed in District 16, rolled in its postseason opener, beating Maysville on Monday night, 82-13.
On the bottom half of the girls bracket, #2 seed Stanberry cruised to a 61-18 win over Polo, while Plattsburg pulled the only upset of the night, with the Lady Tigers taking out #3 seed East Atchison, 55-48. Stanberry and Plattsburg will battle in a Class 2, District 16 semifinal on 7:15 Thursday night from Gallatin High School.
