The Missouri Football Coaches Association has released all-state teams for the 2017 football season, picking first, second, and third teams for Classes 1 through 5. Four Princeton Tigers were named Class 1 all-state first teamers, along with three players off of the defending state champion Penney Hornets. Two Trenton Bulldogs, in junior defensive lineman Mason Owen and junior linebacker Jadan Whitney, were named Class 2 third-teamers.
Starting in Class 1, the Princeton Tigers had four first-team selections, with the District 8 champions placing quarterback Andrew Smith and tight end Blaine Millburn from the offensive line of the football, with lineman Drew Dailey and secondary man Tanner Coffman from the defense. Princeton defensive back Clayton Sweeten was an all-state third team pick.
From Penney High of Hamilton, senior LaTroy Harper, widely seen as the most explosive offensive threat in Class 1, was named first-team athlete, with offensive lineman Tyler Trosper and linebacker Kenny Pulley named first-team. Marceline running back Rylan Chrisman was a first-team selection by the coaches.
Those named Class 1 second-team from the area are Marceline offensive lineman Nathan Saryre, Hamilton offensive lineman Garrett Trosper, Marceline wide receiver Levi Terrell, Marceline offensive lineman Trevor Ganaway, and Marceline kicker Cullen Bruner.
Gallatin defensive lineman Graydee Rains, Maysville linebacker Nick Evans, and Polo kick returner Patrick Covey were named to the Class 1 third-team.
Hamilton’s Harper was named the Class 1 offensive player of the year, with Monroe City’s Cole Pennewell and Coach David Kirby earning defensive player of the year and coach of the year honors. Monroe City won the Class 1 state title over Valle Catholic 12-7 last weekend at Mizzou.
Joining the Trenton duo of Owen and Whitney as Class 2 third-team all-staters is Brookfield offensive lineman Brooks Baker.
Chillicothe had five selections to the Class 3 team, with offensive lineman Walker Graves, defensive back Brett Shaffer, and kicker Jack Willard named first team. Willard was a second team punters, while Trace Staton of the Hornets was a second-team linebacker. Cameron High School defensive lineman Joseph Bryant was named third-team Class 3.
From the Class 3 state champion Maryville Spoofhounds, Jalen Sundell was named Offensive Player of the Year, with Matt Webb named Coach of the Year.
