Fifth-ranked Pirates cruise to season-opening win

The fifth-ranked (NJCAA Division Two) North Central Missouri College Pirates hammered the junior varsity from Kansas Christian College on Friday night at the Ketcham Community Center in Trenton, rolling to a 119-50 season-opening victory. 

All sixteen players on the Pirates roster saw playing time, with returning All-American Tyler King scoring a team-high 16 points, while fellow starters Camden Bennett and Jon Carroll each tallying 14, with Za’Corrie Kerr coming off the bench to score 11 points.  In his collegiate debut, Princeton graduate Talan Holt had 11 points on 5 of 6 shooting for the Pirates, with Mikey Thomas contributing 10. 

Sophomore guard Giovanni Mack had a team-high 10 assists to go with eight points and six steals.

North Central, 1-0 to start the season, will travel to the campus of Highland Community College in Highland, Kansas on Tuesday afternoon to battle the Scotties as part of a women’s/men’s JUCO doubleheader.  The 12th-ranked Lady Pirates will open their season in the 5:30 contest, followed by the 7:30 men’s game, with Tom Johnson on the call on KGOZ FM 101.7, KTTNSports.com, and KGOZ from the Tune-In Radio app.
